737 Gear Up Landing

If the gear is going to fail on a 737, this is one of the worst ways for it to happen — one main landing gear is up, ... all » the other is down. But the pilot does a great job of keeping the aircraft on the runway. There is something to be said for fixed gear aircraft.

Kai Tak International Airport

Hong Kong’s Kai Tak International Airport (now closed) was legendary for its approach procedure, which was offset 90 ... all » degrees from the runway heading. Pilots of even the largest jumbo jets had to make a tight turn at low altitude just seconds before touching down. Here, a Korean Airlines 747 makes what, believe it or not, is a typical approach into this airport.

I am unsure of the type of aircraft involved in this video and would appreciate if you know what type it is. I believe it is an F16. Regardless, in this video of an airshow, the pilot is performing some acrobatic maneuvers when it appears that he neglects to keep an eye on the altimeter. He taps the rear of the plane on the ground and then ejects with the co-pilot.

Thunderbird F16 crash (Pilot's View)

Pilot error caused a U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds F-16 to crash at an air show on Sept. 14 at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, the Air Force said on Wednesday. (See below for in-cockpit video of the crash.) The pilot incorrectly climbed to 1,670 feet AGL instead of 2,500 feet before initiating the pull-down to the Split-S maneuver. The F-16, valued at $20.4 million, was destroyed. He ejected when the aircraft was 140 feet above the ground. There was no other damage to military or civilian property.

The view from the ground will be the next posting. It is quite interesting to see the professionalism of the pilot executing the emergency maneouvre when you see the exterior view.

What happens to cars behind a Boeing 747?

Ever wonder what would happen to a Ford Mondeo and Citroen 2CV that drive behind a 747 at takeoff power? Yeah me neither but it seems the guys over at Top Gear wanted to know what would happen. They launched these cars behind a Virgin Atlantic 747 with two engines at full thrust to answer this question.

Their findings? The Ford Mondeo is the car you want to be in if you find yourself in this situation.

What a great video!
